No. 6 MiraCosta Women’s Basketball Opens Conference Play Undefeated

OCEANSIDE — The MiraCosta College women's basketball team opens Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play this week carrying a perfect 15-0 record and a No. 6 ranking in the latest CCCWBCA State Top 25 poll, making the Spartans the last undefeated team remaining in California community college basketball.

MiraCosta enters conference action after a dominant nonconference stretch that included multiple tournament titles and wins over ranked opponents. The Spartans are 7-0 at home, 6-0 on the road, and 2-0 at neutral sites, establishing themselves as one of the most complete teams in the state on both ends of the floor.

Offensively, the Spartans are averaging 83.9 points per game while holding opponents to just 45.7, shooting 30.1 percent from the field. MiraCosta has out-rebounded opponents by nearly six boards per game and forced an average of 26.9 turnovers, fueling an up-tempo, pressure-driven style of play.

Sophomore forward Chaya Scott anchors the frontcourt and leads the team in rebounding at 8.1 boards per game, providing consistent presence on the glass. In the backcourt, sophomore point guard Anayla Anderson continues to drive the Spartans' attack, leading the team in both assists (6.0 per game) and steals (4.7 per game) while ranking second in scoring at 11.1 points per contest.

MiraCosta's balanced scoring attack features five players averaging at least 8.0 points per game, led by Kyla Palpallatoc (13.5 ppg) and Kiya Waters (11.8 ppg), giving the Spartans multiple options and lineup flexibility as conference play begins.

The Spartans open PCAC action this week looking to carry their momentum into a highly competitive conference slate, with every game taking on added significance as postseason positioning comes into focus.
