Ricky Toxtle Earns MiraCosta College's Highest Academic Honor

MiraCosta College men's soccer student-athlete Ricky Toxtle has been named a recipient of the prestigious Medal of Academic Merit, the college's highest academic award.

Now in its 62nd year, the Medal of Academic Merit recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and meaningful contributions to both the campus and the broader community. Honorees are nominated by faculty in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the classroom.

Toxtle's recognition reflects not only his academic success, but also his impact as a dedicated student-athlete. A two-year member of the MiraCosta men's soccer program, he played a key role in the program's recent postseason success, helping lead the Spartans to an Elite Eight appearance in 2024 and a Sweet Sixteen finish in 2025.

A graduate of La Costa Canyon High School, Toxtle balanced the demands of collegiate athletics with a high level of academic performance, embodying the true spirit of a student-athlete.

"Ricky represents everything we strive for in MiraCosta Athletics," said athletic director Patrick Conahan. "His commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the field makes him truly deserving of this honor."
